"Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus" by Nancy Guthrie

This is a collection of 22 readings for advent.  It's a book that is going to be treasured in my house for years to come.  Guthrie has taken sermons and portions of works from a wide variety of impressive pastor/theologians both old and new: Augustine, Luther, Piper, Sproul, and Spurgeon just to name a few.

This is a great book to spend daily reading in during Christmas time.  All of the readings are about 4 pages or so and vary in depth and focus.  With all of the running around that we've done this Christmas, the time I spent with this book really helped keep me focus on the amazing gift of Jesus Christ born as a human baby.  Immanuel.  God is with us.

I saw that Guthrie will come out with another collection in similar style for Easter dealing with the cross and resurrection.  That is going to be very high on my wish list for 2009.
